FOREIGN BODY IN THE NOSE

STAY CALM
Panic can make the situation worse. Keep the person calm as well.
DO NOT PROBE OR POKE
Remember, quick and calm action is important, but so is ensuring you don’t make the situation worse by trying to remove the object yourself if it’s not easily removable. Avoid trying to remove the object with fingers, tweezers, or any other tool. This can push the object further in or cause injury.
ENCOURAGE GENTLE BLOWING
If the person is old enough to understand, have them gently blow their nose to see if the object comes out. This is often effective for small, loose objects.
AVOID BLOCKING THE OTHER NOSTRIL
When trying to blow the object out, do not press on the other nostril. This could cause complications.
PREVENT SWALLOWING OR INHALATION
Make sure the person doesn’t sniff or swallow, as this can cause the object to move into the throat or lungs.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
If there’s difficulty breathing, bleeding that won’t stop, or if the person is in distress, call emergency services immediately.
STAY WITH THE PERSON
Keep the person calm and still until help arrives or until you reach a medical facility.
