TINNITUS TREATMENT SINGAPORE | EAR RINGING TREATMENT
WHAT IS TINNITUS?
Tinnitus is a persistent auditory sensation that manifests as ringing, buzzing, hissing, or even clicking in the ears in the absence of an external sound source.

TYPES OF TINNITUS
SUBJECTIVE TINNITUS
This is the most common type, where the sound is only heard by the patient. It is often linked to hearing loss due to ageing or damage to the inner ear.
OBJECTIVE TINNITUS
This is a rare form where the sound can be heard by an external observer as well, such as a doctor during examination. This is often caused by problems with blood vessels, muscles, or bones in the ear.
PULSATILE TINNITUS
This presents as a rhythmic noise usually in sync with the patient’s pulse. It is often caused by blood flow changes in the vessels near the ear or increased awareness of such blood flow.
NON-PULSATILE TINNITUS
This is a continuous noise that doesn’t vary in rhythm or volume. It is often associated with sensorineural hearing loss.
CAUSES OF TINNITUS
Here is a list of range of potential causes for tinnitus:
AUDITORY DAMAGE
Long-term exposure to loud noises, earwax blockage, and age-related hearing loss are common culprits.
MÉNIÈRE'S DISEASE
Characterised by episodes of vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus. Prompt diagnosis and management are crucial.
OTOSCLEROSIS
Otosclerosis can often lead to tinnitus, presenting as a persistent ringing or buzzing in the ears.
INFLAMMATION AND INFECTION
Vestibular neuronitis (inflammation of the inner ear and nerve of hearing and balance) and labyrinthitis (infection of the inner ear) may be associated with tinnitus.
CHOLESTEATOMA
This is a skin cyst that appears in the middle ear and can lead to tinnitus as it grows and causes damage.
PALATAL MYOCLONUS
This a rare neurological condition characterised by repetitive, involuntary contractions of the palate muscles. These spasms often manifest as a clicking sound that may or may not be audible to the patient and those around them.
MEDICATIONS
Ototoxic drugs like certain antibiotics, diuretics, and chemotherapy agents can cause tinnitus.
PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS
Stress, depression, and anxiety can contribute to or worsen the condition.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
Conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and thyroid disorders can exacerbate or trigger tinnitus.
TUMOURS THAT CAN CAUSE TINNITUS
Tumours like Acoustic Neuroma (Vestibular Schwannoma), Glomus Tumour, Meningioma and Paraganglioma (Carotid Body Tumour) can cause tinnitus.

The patient presented with left sided tinnitus.
